Middle East Supply Chain Update

Sea Freight

Following the withdrawal of war risk coverage as of 5 March, most carriers have suspended new bookings to and from the Middle East. The expanded high-risk zone now includes the Gulf of Oman, limiting vessel access. Jeddah and King Abdullah Port are currently not affected, while Salalah is operating at reduced capacity.

Shipments already in transit to the Arabian Gulf are being diverted to the nearest safe port for discharge. Kopf & Lübben will coordinate individually with affected customers regarding next steps and onward handling instructions.

Air Freight

Air freight capacity remains very limited. Some Gulf carriers have resumed restricted operations, while many international services are still suspended. Rerouting via alternative hubs such as China and Hong Kong is increasing pressure on available capacity and causing broader network disruptions.

Customers should expect delays, limited space, and short-notice rate adjustments.

Outlook

The situation is impacting global capacity, particularly on Far East–Europe and Asia–Middle East routes. Further disruptions and rate increases, including potential war risk surcharges, are likely.

Kopf & Lübben continues to monitor developments closely and remains in close contact with carrier partners to support customers and minimize disruption.
