Low Water Levels on German Inland Waterways – Impact on Container Transport

Persistently low water levels on several German inland waterways are currently affecting inland barge operations. On key transport routes, barges are unable to operate at their usual carrying capacity, resulting in reduced transport capacity, longer transit times and, in some cases, increased transportation costs. Consequently, container shipments to and from the German seaports may experience occasional delays or short-notice adjustments to transport planning. In certain situations, cargo may need to be shifted to rail or road transport, where available capacity is also under increased pressure. Our teams are continuously monitoring water levels and remain in close contact with shipping lines, terminal operators and inland transport partners. This enables us to identify potential disruptions at an early stage and arrange suitable transport alternatives whenever possible. Should your shipment be affected, we will inform you promptly and coordinate the best possible solution together with you. We appreciate your understanding and remain committed to handling your container shipments as reliably and efficiently as possible under the current conditions.
