Repeated closures of the Hamburg Veterinary Office cause considerable strain
Unfortunately, in recent weeks and months, the Veterinary Office in Hamburg has repeatedly laid down work or has only been able to work to a limited extent at short notice. The impact of this on our operational processes and our customers’ supply chains has become almost unbearable – not to mention the additional costs.
We have raised this issue with our industry association. In mid-December 2025, the association wrote to the responsible Senator to draw attention to the increasing restrictions and point out the economic risks for Hamburg as a business location and the additional financial burden on importers. In an effort to increase the pressure for political action, the association also closely involved the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Innovation in the issue this week and provided its management with comprehensive information on the situation. At the same time, the association intervened at the technical level with the Veterinary and Import Office itself in order to initiate short-term relief measures.
Please be assured that we will continue to work vigorously to achieve a structural and resilient solution to ensure that time-critical goods reach their destination in a timely manner, even in the event of repeated work stoppages.
