Delmenhorst town church in new splendour
After more than a year of renovation, the Delmenhorst town church shines in renewed splendour. The final step was to put the pews, each measuring 500 cm by 120 cm by 70 cm, back in place after they had been stored in a neighbouring parish during the restoration.
“This doesn’t normally belong to our core competence,” reports Alexander Harms from the ocean freight import department, who is a member of the parish church council and was aware of the difficulties involved: “As the pews are very heavy and the parish was unable to load and move them to the church on their own, a moving company with the appropriate expertise had to transport the pews. The move also required a relatively small vehicle with a lifting platform, as the church is located in the town centre. A 40-tonne lorry would thus have been out of the question.”
By mid-March the time had come and the loading, transport and on-site reinstallation of the pews, organised by Mr Harms, went smoothly. We carried out this work as a donation, covering all transport costs in support of the church parish.
