Container congestions in the Port of Hamburg
The dwell time of import containers in the Port of Hamburg has steadily increased – now the operator of the terminals, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG, sees the need to take much tougher measures.
From July 1, HHLA reserves the right to charge €50 per container per day from the 5th day onwards, in addition to the usual storage fee. If a container has not been picked up 10 days after arrival at the port, it can be moved to a guarded area at a cost of 300 € per box.
In the longer term, terminal operators expect a significant increase in incoming containers, as many container ships are currently heading west following the lifting of the quarantine in Shanghai and other Chinese ports.
